Having a shaved head means a lot, and there's a lot that a haircut means. My haircut is my image and when I'm not trying out a new barber or cut, my resident barber knows which number to dial whenever you walk into the shop. What are the different hair lengths and what is a number 10 haircut? Does a number 10 mean the hair looks good on a scale of 10 or is it a length size? Let's discuss.

How long is haircut number 10?
The number 10 haircut is one of the longest hair clipper sizes you will get. The length is 1.25 inches, which has a wide guard to limit the amount of haircut. So if you have long hair and want to keep it tidy without thinning hair, this number is for you.

You can go all the way to guard ridge number 12, but 10 is an ideal point. Number 12 is half an inch larger than number 8, and 10 is right between those two numbers.
How to choose a hair clipper
Regardless of clipper numbers, choosing the right clipper is the first step to a clean cut. This is especially true if you want to buy a hair clipperDo your own haircut. For example during Covid I was forced to get my own hair clippers because of the lockdown. As a result, I had to look for a hair clipper and discovered a few things.

Here are ways to choose the right hair clipper for you.
a) Types of hair clippers for personal use
Depending on how they work, there are two main types of hair clippers.
- Manual hair clippers
- Electric hair clippers
1) Manual clippers
As the name suggests, the manual hair clipper is operated by hand and you do not need a power source. I've used this clipper on my head before. It's been a while, but it's worth mentioning. The haircut number on this hair clipper is fixed, and you would need to use another hair clipper instead of choosing different sizes of haircut guards.

These hair clippers are still in use today. My barber uses these clippers alongside the electric clippers to trim the slightly longer hair on my head.
These hair clippers have a great advantage when used in places without electricity, which is rarely the case but is a reality in some parts of the world. However, skill is required to use the clippers properly.
2) Electric clippers
The only difference between an electric clipper and a manual clipper is that the former uses electric motors. The motors move the shearing blades in a similar way to the manual hair clipper.

Electric hair clips use three different types of motors. The engines are rotary mortar, magnetic and tilting mortar. These clippers can use either electricity or charged batteries to power the clippers.
b) Corded or cordless clippers
While this isn't a big deal, whether clippers are corded or not could have a big impact on how the clipper performs. I personally like to shave boys outside in the garden and not inside. For this reason I decided to use cordless shears.
With the wired version, you are not limited in time to how long you can cut hair. For this reason, corded clippers are preferred in most hair salons.
c) accessories
Hair clippers are differentAccessories that help with shaving. For example; Plastic combs, different clippers for different hair types, protective combs, hair cutting oil and more.

d) Extendable blade
Some clippers have the first two clipper guard sizes on a single blade. All you have to do is extend the blade and end up with different haircut lengths. In such cases, the clipper size is limited to two options for thin hair. However, you can still attach various clipper guards.
Different hairstyles with number 10 Clipper Size
We rarely see the number 10 hair clipper being used independently. Instead, the shear guards are combined with other numbers to create different hair length options and cuts. Hence you see hair number 10Clipper sizes used in the fadehaircuts.
Here are some styles that you can try with number 10.
1) The buzz cut
Perhaps one of the most used haircut numbers and hair choices of all time. The beauty of the buzz cut is that it works on all genders and hair types. The cut will work for you if you have thin or thick hair. The buzz cut works for different haircut numbers and clipper sizes.

The buzz cuts see very few strands of hair on the sides of the head. The part where hair clipper number 10 comes into play is when it is used on the top of the head as this style leaves some hair on top.
2) fading

Fade haircuts are popular worldwide, using different sizes of clippers on the head. You can start from zero to 10 depending on how much hair you want to leave on your head. I have a medium length cut on my head which is the perfect haircut.
No matter what length of hair you have on your head, the fade cut can work for you.It works for most hair types and sizes, and you can hardly go wrong.
3) Crew Cut
The crew cut might be one of the haircuts that you have seen the most. The cut involves an even cut down the top of the head which then fades down the sides with the appropriate shear protection sizes. The clipper guard sizes used in this style don't matter if you keep the concept. You can work with a skin fade or leave some hair on.

If you have a beard, you can keep a length from the side of the head and use the same comb for an even finish on the beard.
4) Taper-Styling
Taper styling means that the haircut length decreases towards the side of the head. This is because the hair ideally tapers downwards. Women's and men's haircut lengths on top of the head are irrelevant to this style, which is why it works well with size 10 clippers. This style works for any hair type and guard size.

The undercut emphasizes the face and draws attention to the eyes. You will therefore look great with sunglasses. If not, the color of your eyes will pop. This hairstyle works no matter if you have oneshaved beard or not.
Final Thoughts
In most cases, your hair (if not your shoes) will draw the attention of people you interact with. You need to know the right haircut guard number for your hair to get the perfect cut. Number 10 will never go wrong if your hair is long enough. Keeping my hair makes me feel insecure using the lower blades. In moments like this, the number 10 works perfectly for me.
